Philippines has officially asked the IOC to include chess in the program of the Olympic Winter Games

The appeal was signed in Manila

In a sense, a historical event took place today in Manila. The head of FIDE during a working visit to the Philippines met with President of National Olympic Committee (NOC), Jose Cojuangco. Hand, of course, discussed the development prospects of the program "Chess in Schools". And then the president of the Philippines Olympic Committee signed a petition to the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge and the IOC members for the inclusion of chess in the Olympic Winter Games program.
Summing up the visit, Ilyumzhinov said that the Philippines became the first country to officially appealed to the IOC for the inclusion of chess in the Olympic Winter Games program.

  1. If chess is included in the olympic games,it would impose harsh drug testing in many chess events around the world. I am opposed to such infringements.
